LITERATURE.

The Canary creator, once trapped by the noble art of writing, reveals the heart of the intrinsic tradition and in which the parameters are formed in order to enrich their chosen profession.

Penetrating deep down, the most ancient literary text found is a funerary piece. It is a dirge –a lyrical chant- in honour of Guillén Peraza, which was written after his death in 1447.

María Rosa Alonso, gave a beautiful definition of literature in the Canary Islands (from the XVI to the XIX century): …the literature cultivated in the islands is the Spanish literature of Castalia, from the moment the language reaches its plenitude and that, with the passing of time, will manifest the natural characteristics of its insular idiosyncrasy among regional literature, this is how Spanish literature develops in the Canary Islands.

The development of poetry, novels, drama, narratives, philosophical research and many other variants is constant and is fuelled by famous or inexperienced writers which are impossible to enumerate when one wishes only to show a glimpse of an art very much related to national identity.
